Dental sealants for kids
What Are Dental Sealants?
A sealant is a safe, thin coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars and premolars). These teeth have natural pits and grooves that easily trap food particles and plaque bacteria. Since a toothbrush can’t always clean these tiny crevices effectively, they become prone to cavities. Sealants act as a barrier, protecting these vulnerable areas.
When Should My Child Get Sealants?
We suggest applying sealants as soon as your child’s permanent molars appear. The first set typically emerges between ages 5 and 7, and the second set of molars and premolars usually comes in between 11 and 14. Sealants can wear down over time and may need to be reapplied.
How Is the Sealant Procedure Done?
The process is quick, simple, and completely painless. First, our experienced Jubilee Dental team will gently clean and dry the tooth. Next, a special gel is applied to prepare the tooth surface for a strong bond. Finally, the sealant material is painted onto the tooth and cured with a special light, creating a durable protective shield that helps prevent decay.
